Sasieni 4Dot Walnut Smooth Prince Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Description

Along with names like Barling, Charatan, and Dunhill Sasieni holds a special place in the history of English smoking pipes – one near to its very beginnings. So the story goes, Sasieni himself worked for Dunhill during its early days. But eventually he left Dunhill, having his own ideas about how pipes should be made, and founded Sasieni. This was 1919, and Sasieni has been the closest thing to a household name in English pipes ever since.

I’m a big fan of Sasieni’s Walnut finish. It’s a quintessential English stain; a brown sugar finish that elevates the underlying briar patterns quite marvelously. The briar on this one is lovely too, with a good mix of flame grain and bird’s-eyes around the bowl. The shape is also a classic in the English-French canon, that of the prince. Lightweight and easily portable, it will clench with ease, but will also be just as home between the fingers as you sit beside an open fire.

The condition is excellent. The inner rim has some minor darkening, and the finish on the top of the rim has faded a little over time, but the pipe is otherwise in near-mint condition.
