PapaBearPipes Smooth Bent Brandy, Bamboo Shank Artisan Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Out of stock

Description

Papa Bear’s Pipes are made by North American artisan Tim Beaumont. Beaumont has been making pipes since 2018, cultivating a unique style that isn’t afraid to mix and match design elements and to create something completely out of the ordinary.

I spend my day, every day, looking at pipes. Some are very traditional, others aren’t. But even in the latter case, there’s often a lot of overlap. Pipe-makers learn by trial and error, but also from one another, in order to find out what works. It’s rare, then, to have a pipe land on my desk that is completely unlike 99% of the pipe’s I’ve seen before.

And then there’s pipes like this one. It is way out there – and I mean that as a compliment. The juxtaposition of an already unconventionally-shaped cauldron-like bowl with what is colloquially known as ‘crazy bamboo’ has, in this instance, yielded a bent brandy like no other. Added to that is a cumberland stem, blonde-stained straight grain briar, and a kiss of plateau briar on the underside of the bowl. It’s complex, but in no way ‘too complicated.’ I recommend filling this one deep for a long smoke before a wood fire – but it’s also a pipe that would be hard not to take out to show off to your pipe-smoking friends.
