Kaywoodie Ruf-Tone Rusticated Lumberman Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates
Out of stock
Description
Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors’ items, in addition to being fantastic smokers.
The “Ruf-Tone” appears to have been a relatively recent Kaywoodie product, though its style is anything but, calling back to a time nearly a century ago in classic American pipes. Defined by a rustication applied in the form of deep grooves along the bowl’s exterior, not entirely unlike those of Custom-Bilt and its many inspired finishes. In a way that is both similar and very different to the Custom-Bilt style, the rustication on this Ruf-Tone creates what is almost an entirely different shape out of the lumberman underneath—something made even more pronounced by the pipe’s slightly Danish, flared ebonite stem.
The condition is very good. Minor wear to the rim and slight handling marks.
