Neerup pipes are made by Peder Jeppesen, who began his career in the workshops of the legendary Danish pipe-makers Karl Erik Ottendahl and Erik Nording. Peder’s style has changed over the years, with his more recent work displaying a playfulness in design that is not often seen, even within the avant garde stylings of the Danish tradition.

This particular pipe appears to sit halfway between Peder’s strong Danish pipe-making heritage and his more recent, characteristic playfulness. It takes a very classic shape – the apple – and combines it with an unconventional saddle stem and a silver shank cap in a way that recalls a military or army mount. It moves away from the conventions of the English-French shape chart, but it doesn’t stray too far.

All in all, it’s a beautiful pipe, not least because of the excellent grain it displays. While it does have some very minor rim charring, the pipe remains in a fantastic condition, and should be a real treat for its next owner.
