Savinelli Estella Rusticated Freehand Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
The Estella is a genuine cult classic within the Savinelli catalog, one that is only more so for being briefly produced many decades ago. For some reason, the Estella went through various, sporadic phases of discontinuation, revival (such as the Estella Nonpareil), and discontinuation once again. This one looks to be from one of the first iterations of the Estella, which were freehands not entirely unlike Savinelli’s Autograph series. Like Savinelli’s Autograph freehands, Estellas tend to be on the large side, though unlike the majority of Autographs, the Estella line is known for its intensely rugged rustication, as well its colorful Lucite stems. This one is a deep-chambered, tall freehand Dublin, for instance, with a bronze mouthpiece that, while certainly Lucite, is quite evocative of the antique Bakelite used by many artisans today.
The pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. Some slight scratches at the base of the stem, but nothing major.
