Bertram Washington Smooth Poker Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates

Description
Bertram was an American pipe maker of especial historic significance, surviving for nearly 100 years between the 19th and 20th centuries. It was very much a family affair: the company was started in Washington, DC, by Bertram Goldmann around the 1870s, who passed the reins to his son (also named Betram), in the early 20th century, who in turn passed the reins to his own son (also named Betram). World leaders, both domestic and international, were regulars at the Betrams’ business, allowing it to position itself as “The Astley’s of America.”
This particular pipe is a solid poker from the storied American make. A quintessential working man’s pipe, it is nonetheless draped in a light, natural stain that highlights plenty of bird’s-eye around the bowl.
The condition is fair. Some darkening and wear to the rim, a few superficial scratches on the bowl, and some minor, residual oxidation on the pipe’s vulcanite stem.
